Professor Lesakit S.B. Mellau (PhD)

Working experience and Professional Skills.

Prof. Lesakit S.B. Mellau (PhD), a Tanzanian citizen and a registered Veterinary surgeon (Reg. No 500).  He graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) degree in 1990 and a Master of Veterinary Medicine degree (MVM) in 1996 at Sokoine University of Agriculture. At Master level he worked on “Epidemiology and Pathology of viral and bacterial causes of diarrhea in neonatal animals”. At Doctoral degree (PhD) he specialized in Veterinary Internal Medicine, major in Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine in animal populations. He underwent courses in research ethics, epidemiology, advanced statistics and experimental designs. He holds a Diploma in “Herd Health” from Ruppin Institute of Higher Education in Israel and a Certificate in Ethics and Animal Welfare in Scientific Research. At various levels Prof. Mellau teaches Food Animal Medicine, Herd Health, Epidemiology, Statistics and Data Management, and Research Methods.

Prof. Mellau has published widely his original research work and also works he carried out with others in refereed scientific journals. He has published 37 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and 24 in scientific Conferences proceedings. Prof. Mellau has supervised and/or co-supervised a total of twelve postgraduate students at M.Sc. and PhD levels and a number of undergraduate Special Projects. He is computer literate with extensive skills in the use of databases and analytical computer software.

Prof. Mellau has a demonstrable experience in administration/management and ability to perform and deliver effectively and efficiently to meet deadlines. He has excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills, good communication skills and ability to motivate and encourage others to achieve expected tasks. He served as the Head of Department of Veterinary Medicine and Public Health for 6 years and briefly as the Dean of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Sokoine University of Agriculture.
